The U.S. Men’s National Kendo Team is the only country in the world other than Japan and Korea to have competed in the finals of the World Kendo Championships since 1985. In 2006, at the 13th World Kendo Championships in Taiwan, the U.S. National Kendo Team defeated Japan and placed 2nd, being the only country in the history of the World Kendo Championships to have ever defeated Japan, breaking Japan’s record of winning 12 consecutive World Championships (going back to 1970). Christopher Yang, the captain of the U.S. Men's National Kendo Team, has represented the United States for the past 17 years and has captained the team since 2006. Yang, together with a core group of five other teammates, have been together since 2006 and have sacrificed their careers and private lives for kendo and the U.S. National Kendo Team.
