Justin Verlander

Detroit Tigers

Justin Verlander is a three-time All-Star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. Growing up, Justin has always been a flamethrower, clocking 84mph at the tender age of 13. By the time he was at Old Dominion University, he had grown into a 6’5” strikeout monster, breaking records and averaging 11.5 strikeouts per 9 innings. In 2006, he was named Rookie of the Year and helped the Tigers reach the World Series. On June 12, 2007, he pitched a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers. Verlander repeated the feat on May 7, 2011 to become the 23rd player in MLB history to pitch multiple no-no’s.

Known by most basketball fans as "Melo," Carmelo Anthony is a four-time NBA All Star small forward that is anything but mellow on court. His game is highlighted by his explosive offense and fierce competitiveness. He consistently makes the NBA's short list of highest scorers (26.3 PPG) and is widely regarded as one of the league's top clutch performers. During the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, he helped the USA National Team win bronze and gold medals, respectively. Melo currently plays for the New York Knicks.

Kara Goucher is a long-distance runner from Duluth, Minnesota. She attended the University of Colorado where she was the 3000 meter and 5000 meter NCAA Outdoor Champion as well as the NCAA Cross Country Champion in 2000. Within the International Association of Athletics Federations, she medaled twice in two major events: bronze in the 2006 IAAF World Cup in the 3000 m with a personal best 8:41.42, and bronze in the 2007 IAAF World Championship in athletics in the 10,000 m with a seasonal best 32:02.05. In 2008, she entered her first marathon at the New York Marathon finishing third with 2:25:53. In the 2011 Boston Marathon, she finished 5th overall with a time of 2:24:52.

Chris Bosh, a power forward from Hutchins, TX was drafted fourth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. He’s a 6-time All-Star and member of the 2008 Men’s USA Olympic Gold Medal Team. After seven seasons in Toronto and being one of the most sought after free agents last summer, he landed in sunny South Florida with his fellow free agents and Olympians, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to form the BIG 3 of the Miami HEAT. Chris Bosh, in his first Miami HEAT season, was instrumental in leading the HEAT to the NBA Finals.

Curtis Granderson is an All-Star center-fielder for the New York Yankees. Growing up near Chicago during the reign of Air Jordan, he loved both baseball and basketball and dreamt of playing in the NBA. Granderson is regarded as one of the most dynamic athletes in the MLB, and on September 9, 2007, he became the 4th player in MLB history to be part of the 20-20-20-20 club, recording 20 doubles, triples, home runs and steals in a single season. He led the Tigers to the World Series in 2006.

Jennie Finch is an All-American, two-time Olympic softball pitcher. While attending University of Arizona, she set two NCAA records: 32 wins in a single season with no losses in her junior year and 60 consecutive wins spanning her sophomore, junior and senior years. In 2004, she led Team USA to an Olympic gold medal; and in 2008 she followed up at the Beijing Olympics with a silver medal. Jennie also played National Pro Fastpitch with the Chicago Bandits, pitching perfect games on June 16, 2009 and July 9, 2010.

Eric Gordon, former star athlete for Indiana University was drafted by the Clippers in the 2008 NBA Draft Lottery. Gordon was a pivotal member of the USA Basketball Team that won the gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championships, and he finished the 2010-2011 NBA season as the Clippers’ second leading scorer with an average of 22.3 points per game. At just 22 years old and about to enter his fourth NBA season, Gordon has already become one of the NBA’s deadliest scorers, with a proven ability to score at the rim, be a fearless defender, and a knack for hitting big shots.

Derrick Williams was the #2 draft pick for the 2011 NBA Draft. He was a member of the 2010-2011 PAC 10 Championship team in Arizona and was awarded the 2011 PAC 10 Conference Player of the Year. During his time at UofA he received several notable awards including 2011 NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team, 2010 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and 2010 First Team All-Pac-10. Derrick joins a young and athletic Minnesota Timberwolves team, and will look to contribute immediately.

CJ Wilson is a starting left-handed pitcher for the LA Angels of Anaheim whose career is defined by hard work and an unwavering determination to succeed at the game's highest level. Wilson played baseball throughout his early life in Southern California, though he was undrafted by the MLB and only invited to walk-on at Divison I schools when he graduated high school in 1998. Unrelenting in his decision to pursue a career in baseball, Wilson chose to play in junior college before transferring to Loyola Marymount University to in 1999. In 2001, his dreams became reality when he was drafted by the Rangers, giving him the chance work his way through the minors and a major injury to make his major league debut in 2005. His strong work ethic ultimately paid off when he was awarded the starting position in 2010, and his first nod to the AL All-Star team in 2011.

During his twelve years in the league, he was a three-time All-Star quarterback for Seattle and led them to a total of six playoff seasons, including one championship appearance during the 2005-2006 season when he was the highest-rated passer in his conference (98.2). He still holds numerous records at his former franchise including: Most Passing Yards per Game (449 yards), Most Passing Yards per Season (4,279 yards), and Most Career Passing Yards (29,579 yards).

In 2009 he represented Japan in the World Baseball Classic as the Japanese team earned their second consecutive tournament title. Most recently, he was signed by the Texas Rangers in a six-year contract amid much excitement in the States and abroad.
